KEPPO plans a Korean book sharing event for students in the Americas who are having difficulty getting a Korean book during a pandemic.
(사)해외동포책보내기운동협의회(이사장 손석우)와 KEPPO (Korean English Program Parent Organization)는 6월 1일 업무협약을 체결하고 본격적인 책보내기 일정을 시작했습니다. 이번 업무협약체결은 미주지역 내 한국어를 공부하는 학생들에게 한국어 책을 보급하고, 한국어 학습을 진흥하기 위한 취지로 마련되었으며, 앞으로 양 단체는 업무협약을 통해 유기적인 협조와 교류를 지속적으로 해 나가기로 했습니다.
The 'Campaign Center of Book Supplying for Oversea Koreans' has signed an agreement with KEPPO (Korean English Program Parent Organization) on June 1st to send Korean children's books to the United States. This agreement will lead to a distribution of Korean books to students studying Korean in the United States, and the two organizations have decided to continue cooperating in promoting Korean language learning.
도서 1만여권을 포함해 마스크 1천장, 한복 15벌, 태권도복 15벌, 권투장갑 15벌이 기증되었으며, 1차로 선적된 도서는 6월 30일경 미국 내 도착 후 자원봉사자들의 책 분류 작업을 모두 마친 뒤 keppo.org 사이트를 통해 배포될 예정입니다. 이번에 도착할 책은 유아, 초등학생들을 위한 다양한 주제의 한국어책으로 구성되어 있으며, 책을 받고자 하는 모든 학생들 및 한국어 학습 관련 종사자는 누구나 신청 가능합니다
A generous donation of 10,000 children's books, 1,000 Face Masks, 15 Hanboks (Korean Folk Dress), 15 Taekwondo Uniforms, and 15 boxing gloves will be distributed through the www.keppo.org website. The books that will arrive this summer will be Korean books on a variety of topics suitable for all ages, from infants to elementary school students. Anyone who wishes to learn or teach Korean can apply through KEPPO.
KEPPO는 미국 캘리포니아 글렌데일시 내에 한국어와 영어를 동시에 공부하는 학생들의 언어습득을 돕기 위해 학부모들이 만든 작은 단체에서 시작되었습니다. 현재는 비영리단체로 등록을 마치고 미주 전체 이중언어를 공부하는 학생들을 위한 한국어, 영어 수업을 개발해 제공하고 있으며, 그 외에도 고등학생들의 자원봉사 기회 제공 등 다양한 프로그램 개발에 힘쓰고 있습니다.
KEPPO was founded by a small group of parents in Glendale, California as a non-profit organization to help students who are studying in Korean and English dual-language programs. KEPPO has developed supplementary Korean and English classes to provide support to students studying bilingual languages. In addition, we are striving to develop a variety of volunteer opportunities for high school students.
특히, COVID-19팬더믹으로 인해 학생들의 학습 공백이 길어지고 있는 상황 속에서 학습에 어려움을 겪고 있는 학생들을 위해 산하 교육단체인 KEPPO Academy(www.keppoacademy.org)를 설립해 여름방학 집중 학습 프로그램을 만들어 학생들을 모집하고 있는 중입니다. 양방향 소통이 가능한 온라인 프로그램을 통해 이중언어 학생들의 실질적인 언어 교육을 돕고, 검증받은 선생님만으로 채운 강사진이 직접 운영하는 수업으로 현재 학부모들 사이에 큰 인기를 얻고 있습니다.
Moreover, an affiliated educational program was established for the summer program at KEPPO Academy (www.keppoacademy.org) to help students having difficulty learning due to the long gaps in school dual-language programs with the COVID-19 pandemic. The classes are run by qualified teachers and the program was specifically designed to help bilingual students' practical language education through an interactive online program.
